MUST READ: 7 REASONS PEOPLE ESTABLISH RADIO STATIONS IN IBADAN

In the words of Sammy Ajufo, a new radio station opens up in Ibadan every 5 minutes. While the statement may seem like an exaggeration, it's really not too far from the reality on ground. New stations are popping up in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State in Nigeria, almost every month and that has made many people so curious that they have bombarded us with all sort of questions at Primus Media City. Many people want to know if radio business is really very lucrative, those who are business minded are making enquires about the cost of setting up a radio station, another set of people want to know how easy it is to secure a license to set up one.  Well, I shall attempt to answer as many questions as I can, based on my own knowledge of the industry as a result of critical observations and almost 15 years of personal experience, which has taken me across 5 different radio stations.  It is however noteworthy to mention here that a radio station is not as cheap to establish as

Just In: Buhari approves 67 new radio, TV stations

The Federal Government has approved 67 new broadcast licences for radio and television stations across the country, the Director-General of the National Broadcasting  Commission, Mallam Balarabe Ilelah, announced Thursday. He also called on broadcasters to continue to abide by the NBC Act, the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, the Electoral Act, and any extant law that guides media operations to ensure that the general election is free, fair and credible. These new licences are coming less than three months to the end of the current regime, which according to industry critics, are parting gifts from the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). He called on the licensees that had yet to pay their outstanding debts to come forward and settle them. Ilelah said the approval of the 67 broadcast licences would bring to a total of 473 licences granted by the Buhari regime. Ilelah stated these during a media parley where he presented his scorecard in the past two years in office

To understand better its radio landscape, here are a few fun facts: 📻 The first radio station in Portugal was founded in 1922 and was called Rádio Clube Português (RCP). It was the country's only radio station until 1927 when Rádio Lisboa was founded. 📻 One of the major players in the Portuguese radio market is Rádio Renascença, a national station that has been on the air since 1923 and is known for its news and information programming, as well as its classical music programming. 📻 In the 1930s and 1940s, radio became a popular entertainment medium in Portugal, with the creation of several new stations and the expansion of programming to include music, drama, and sports. 📻 In the 1970s, Portugal's first commercial radio stations were launched, introducing a new model of financ

Broadcaster VS MC

There are certainly lots of differences between being a "Professional" "Broadcaster" and "MC" viz "Master of Ceremony" Each definitely has their ethical rules as per their respective assigned designation cum roles.  When each portfolio are now "tagged to a face" with a prefix of:"Professional" then much are expected from the "Public" plus "Employer" of each as per delivery of assigned responsibilities accordingly.  A Broadcaster is defined by "Oxford Dictionary" as "A person whose job is presenting or talking on Television or Radio program.  An "MC" however as an abrevation for "Master of Ceremony's" role is to coordinate an Event/ Ceremony. Usually said  person introduce program outlined viz Guest or Entertainment program plus Entertainer's at a formal occasion. Hence an MC is that person who would coordinate said Event program, towards making it condu
