The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has given a private Radio station, Brila FM approval to commence full commercial broadcast in the garden city of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
NBC’s approval follows a successful completion of the station’s test transmission in December 2021.
The station’s Chief Operating Officer, Debbie Larry-Izamoje, revealed this in an exclusive interview.
Residents received the news with fanfare, as Brila FM’s frontline presenters took to the streets of Port Harcourt on a road show with massive giveaways for the large turnout of sports fans.
Earlier and before they departed for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, members of the Super Eagles sent recorded congratulatory messages to Brila on the opening of its Port Harcourt station.
Following the company’s expansion programme, which also saw a total overhaul and maintenance of its Abuja station in October, Brila Media’s newest member, which operates on the 101.1FM frequency joins the company’s three other stations in Lagos, Abuja and Onitsha, all three operating on the 88.9FM frequency, as well as its online/digital services arm located in its Lagos headquarters.
Recall that Brila Media started its broadcast operations with Sports Radio 88.9 Brila FM Lagos, in 2002; expanded to Abuja in 2006; Onitsha in 2011, with Port Harcourt being the latest addition, in 2021.
Ms Larry-Izamoje, pointed out the latest feat is in line with company’s mission of taking the news on sports stars to the fans anywhere around the world, especially with the company’s giant strides into the digital space which has seen fans access their favourite sports content through Brila Media’s websites, www.brila.net and www.footballlive.ng; on Facebook, through its handle, Sports Radio Brila FM; as well as Twitter and Instagram through @BrilaFM889.
Meanwhile, the station has given assurance of a robust coverage of the ongoing AFCON tournament.
Ms. Larry-Izamoje gave the assurance, confirming that Brila Media’s is fully prepared to serve sports lovers all the exclusive and breaking stories.
“We will be bringing listeners updates about all the happenings preceding, during, and after the tournament hot and fresh. All the matches will be covered live with analyses and highlights by experts and ex-football internationals” she assured.
In line with this, Brila Media’s frontline reporter, Adeseye Ogunbanjo, is also in Cameroon to serve sports fans firsthand information.
Brila FM, it would be recalled, originated from the fecund imagination and creativity of Dr. Larry Izamoje, the man who changed the face of sports journalism in Nigeria, especially with the sumptuous and delicious way he handled its presentation.
